Necklace of Bright Illusions
Legend has it that this pendant was used in a particularly pivotal moment in the escape from the dungeons of Beldaron castle, a tale so many of us know as a bedtime story told to young Gnomes and Halflings alike. The brave band of adventuers were cornered by the guards and, with a flourish of his wrist, the brave Gnome Buttonbottom conjured a grand illusion of celebration fireworks in the very dungeon hall they all stood. Such a quick-thinking move allowed the party to escape unseen, and go on to lead the rebellion that saw the dethroning of the tyrant. - 'A guide to the Royal Treasury of Far Lands', Florian Fairweather, Elven diplomat.
One of the principals that I hold myself to in my creation process is to minimise and reduce waste wherever possible. I delight in bringing new life to items that are overlooked or would otherwise end up in landfill, adore searching through op-shops for pieces that can be transformed, and dismantling second-hand pieces. Each piece has a story, a history of the hands it has passed through in order to get to me. My favourite target for this 'glow-up' transformation has been decorative and collectible spoons. Yes, the same spoons your Nanna has gathering dust on that wooden hanger, and the same ones you have buried under everything else in the cuterly drawer!
Each transformation is different, as there are so many designs! This particular pendant has been lovingly selected due to the wonderful oval workspace it gave me. A hand-cut brass plate has been mounted front and centre (and can be engraved at your leisure, though I can not provide that service presently) and was part of a larger item which was likewise destined for destruction. I absolutely fell in love with the beaten texture of the brass plate, and elected to highlight that by buffing the smooth surfaces and leaving the wear on the rest. The chain has likewise been given a new life! The back of the piece still has the original maker's design, which I feel adds a certain charm to the piece.
The chain included has a 35cm drop and is designed to sit more or less on, or just above, the bust. It would be a fantatic piece to add a little something to an otherwise plain sweater, turleneck or long-sleeve shirt. The chain itself is quite light, but a beautifully intricate design. The pendant itself is roughly 5cm long. The chain and the pendant weigh just under 16 grams all up.
Due to the nature of this piece, the metals are unknown, save for the additions I have personally made.
